How do I look?

It's been a while since this group has had an event! But after some staffing rearrangements #TheDigitalWar is doing its best to pick itself up and start again, starting with the Pageant Event being hosted by the new mod.

Initially I was going to have Emily do the 'kindness' option. She isn't the sort to dress up and gets very self-conscious about that sort of thing. Crocutamon had other ideas, though, and wanted to boost her confidence a little, so he made her do the dressing up portion instead. Neither of them really care if they win…Crocutamon in particular just wants Emily to be a little more confident in herself for matters outside Knowledge stuff. (Although her dress' design is based off the Knowledge crest…)

Be nice to her guys and girls, she's still sensitive when it comes to this sort of thing :) Plus if you are mean to her Crocutamon may bite you...

Story Snippit:
Emily bit her lip and stared at herself in the small mirror of the bathroom attached to her dorm room.

“I look silly,” she finally said with a sigh, as she carefully brushed a strand of her long hair away from her face. It was always getting in the way. That was why she kept it bound up in a braid most of the time, but Crocutamon had insisted, and she wasn’t going to cross him on this. Not when he was holding her precious research books hostage.

She thought back to just yesterday with a huff of frustration. Initially, when she and her digimon had seen the ads posted everywhere for the first-ever pageant for Tamers and digimon, she hadn’t been particularly interested. It was good that a little activity was happening on the campuses again after recent resignation of the majority of their old leaders, but she had no interest in such things herself.

Not so her digimon. Crocutamon, upon seeing the flyers, insisted upon joining. “You should do it!” he had told Emily. “You never do all the fun stuff. You always hide in your room and read your books.”

“Oh, I don’t need to join the pageant,” Emily had said. “I’ve never been comfortable dressing up like that. I always look silly. And I don’t have a special talent or anything besides reading and researching...certainly nothing you could do on stage. I’ll just help the leaders out with paperwork or organizing things if they need it.”

Crocutamon had frowned at that. “You should try something new,” he had told her seriously, sitting back on his short haunches. “You always do the same things. It’s not good for you! Be outgoing for once, you’re always boring!

“I’d rather not,” Emily had told him.

She’d thought the subject over with when her digimon went quiet after that, but a few hours later, while reading in the Lune gardens, he’d unexpectedly proved her wrong. Right as she was beginning to read a fascinating section of Izzy’s notes on his observations about the Digital World, Crocutamon had leapt out of nowhere, snatched the heavy book from her hands in his teeth, and darted off down the path.

“Crocutamon!” she’d shrieked, snatching up her bag hastily and giving chase. “Give that back, you know it’s important!”

But he’d only shaken his head tauntingly and said through a mouthful of book, “Nuh-uh! Not until you do the pageant!”

He’d persisted with the claim, and even hidden that and a number of other texts of hers in various places around the campus, refusing to divulge their location until she joined the event. Which was why she was here now, twenty-four hours later, staring at herself in the mirror, wearing a gown she herself never would have touched (Crocutamon had picked it out) and with her hair, of all things, loose and styled. She didn’t feel like herself at all.

Although, a distant corner of her mind observed, maybe you do look sort of...pretty?

It was a baffling thought. Of the many words she might use to describe herself--and her vocabulary was quite large--pretty never would have been one of them.

“Get out here already, Emily!” Crocutamon yipped, from the other side of the door. “I wanna see!”

She sighed, took a deep breath to prepare herself, and tentatively stepped outside the bathroom into her dorm. “Well...h-how do I look?” she asked, tentatively now, unsure of what the reaction might be.

Crocutamon’s green eyes widened, and his toothy jaw dropped slightly. Emily winced at the reaction, and and said, “I look that silly, huh? I told you this was a bad idea--”

“No way,” Crocutamon said, and he grinned. “You just clean up really well! I’ve never seen you dress up before, Emily, but you look awesome!”

She blushed. “I...I do?” she asked. “I mean, I’ve never really...I don’t...I’m just not used to this.” Wow, she sounded so insecure it was ridiculous. It was just a dress and a silly pageant, why was she getting so nervous and unsure about it?

Crocutamon’s toothy grin was practically blinding. “Well, you look great,” he promised. “You’ll knock that Yuuta guy dead, and everybody else! Well, not literally, but you know what I mean. And if anybody says otherwise I’ll bite’em.”

Emily smiled a little at her partner’s blunt attempt to cheer her up and reassure her. “Well...alright. I’ve already bought the dress and everything, I suppose I might as well give it a shot...but can I have my books back until the day of the pageant?”

Crocutamon’s grin turned wicked. “Not a chance. You gotta go on stage first.”

She sighed. Well, it had been worth a shot.
